Looking to join a company that's making a difference? Sunrock is unstoppable. Young, but full of experience. Happy, but dead serious when it comes to achieving our goals. We are growing fast. Constantly broadening our scope. In three years, we have become the market leader in large-scale solar rooftop installations in the Netherlands and reached over 375 MW of live capacity, enough to supply over 120,000 households with renewable energy.
We are expanding these sustainable energy solutions with ground, water and carport projects throughout Europe and set up offices in Germany and France. At this moment Sunrock has more than 1 GW of solar generation in development, but that’s not all! Sunrock is expanding its business into new territories by developing new energy management services, (large scale) battery energy storage systems and setting up its own Energy Trading desk.
The internship
For the new energy management services, the innovation team has developed a control system for dispatching solar installations, batteries, EV chargers, and generators in congested areas. To further improve the system, the team is looking for interns to research various topics:
- Demand forecasting for building energy consumption and EVs. The study should explore techniques for accurately predicting energy demand based on historical data, weather patterns, building size, and other relevant factors. Based on your finding you should develop demand forecasting models, which improves the scheduling and management of the available distributed energy resources.
- Energy system modelling for integrating motionless wind turbines in our off-grid solutions. Currently, Sunrock develops off-grid solutions for buildings in congested areas. Such an off-grid solution consists of rooftop solar, a battery, and backup generators. We want to further optimize and reduce emissions of our system by adding wind turbines to the mix. Your job is to come up with a model to size the wind turbines in such a way the improved system becomes reliable and cost-effective.
During your internship, you’ll be part of Sunrock’s innovation department where you will be working within the Data team.
Internship responsibilities
As a Research Intern, you will:
- Take ownership of your research, including showcasing your ability to work autonomously and make a meaningful contribution
- Actively engage with the Data team, contributing to a vibrant and collaborative work environment
- Engage in a diverse range of activities alongside the Data team, gaining exposure to real client cases and broadening your skill set.
Requirements:
- Enrolled in a technical master.
- Experience with Python or MATLAB.
- Available for 5 days per week for 3 months.
What’s in it for you?
At Sunrock, work is not just about making a difference in the world - it's also about having fun and enjoying your job. Join our team and benefit from:

Ready to be unstoppable?
Studies show that women and members of underrepresented communities apply for jobs only if they feel they meet 100% of the qualifications. Do you recognize yourself in this statement? Sunrock encourages you to reconsider and apply. Because you do not need to tick all the boxes to be a Sunrocker. We care more about your motivation and potential. We look forward to your application.
You'll meet all kinds of people here. 98% of Sunrockers recommend us as a great place to work, and 87% consider us to be inclusive. We celebrate diversity and work to ensure that we’re a place where each individual can thrive in their uniqueness.
